GALAPAGOS ISLANDS RULES FOR VISITORS
Since the Galapagos Islands were declared a Natural Patrimony of Mankind and is a fragile ecosystem, is the responsibility not only of Ecuadorians but all visitors, to preserve the environment. We all can help their conservation by following simple rules.
The Wildlife:
- Do not touch or handle animals, this may cause mother to abandon their brood.
- Stay at least two meters away off the animals, approach them carefully and do not pursuit them.
- Do not feed them, this can alter their life cycle and affect the social structure and reproduction.
- Do not stay close to animals that are mating or nesting. Sea lions are very jealous with their mates.
- It is forbidden to introduce any kind of animals, seeds or plants to the Galapagos Islands.
The Visiting areas:
- The visitors must follow the trails marked and never leave them. All visitors must be accompanied by a guide approved by the National Park. The guide is the responsible for you thus visitors are requested to follow strictly his instructions.
- Never leave anything on the Islands, just your footsteps.
- Do not disturb animals, plants or any natural object in the Islands; do not transport them from island to island.
- Do not paint names or graffiti on rocks, this can destroy the environment.
- Filming for personal use is permitted. To film for commercial use you must obtain authorities permit and follow certain rules.
On the Boats
- Fishing is not allowed on tourism boats
- Do not throw anything overboard. Keep all rubbish and dispose of it on the boat.
